Homestay Guidelines for Students

Any students who would like a homestay must fill out and sign an application form. ELC cannot find a homestay for you without your completed application.

When students are placed with a homestay as indicated by verbal acceptance, written acceptance, and/or moving into the homestay, students must pay the entire agreed upon rent amount on the same day each month that they are living in the homestay.

Students must plan to stay in a hotel or other accommodation at their own expense unless they have made homestay arrangements with ELC before arriving in Edmond. ELC can help students find hotel arrangements.

If students have many special requirements, it will increase the waiting time for a homestay.

ELC will give students the name, phone number, and address of their host family when they enter the school.

Homestays include a bedroom and bathroom (both could be private or shared), three meals per day, and transportation to and from school for a cost of $600.00 per month. However, if families provide partial services, the cost of rent must be lowered to cover the students’ expenses—the rent should be lowered by $100 per month for transportation and $200 for food costs.

If a homestay does not provide satisfactory service (such as food, transportation, cleanliness, or safety) students may ask to be placed with another homestay.

Students who leave a homestay for any reason must give their host family and ELC two weeks notice before moving out or requesting a change of homestay. Students must pay any remaining balance on their rent before moving out.

Students are fully responsible for any damage they may cause to a host family’s house or property. Students must also pay for any personal international calls they make using the host family’s phone.
